Το ηλεκτρονικό τσιγάρο μπορεί να βλάψει σοβαρά… τον υπολογιστή σας!
Το ηλεκτρονικό τσιγάρο μπορεί να είναι όντως καλύτερο για την υγεία από ό,τι το κανονικό. Βλάπτει όμως πολύ σοβαρά την υγεία του υπολογιστή σας.
Σύμφωνα με αρκετές αναφορές στο Διαδίκτυο, το πρόβλημα με τα ηλεκτρονικά τσιγάρα είναι το κακόβουλο λογισμικό (malware) που ενδεχομένως φέρουν και το οποίο απειλεί την ασφάλεια των πληροφοριακών συστημάτων.
Πολλά ηλεκτρονικά τσιγάρα μπορούν να φορτιστούν μέσω USB, είτε με ειδικό καλώδιο είτε συνδέοντας απευθείας τη συσκευή σε μια θύρα USB. Οποιος και αν είναι ο τρόπος φόρτισης, το αποτέλεσμα παραμένει το ίδιο: ένα πιθανότατα φθηνό ηλεκτρονικό τσιγάρο, από κάποιον αναξιόπιστο προμηθευτή, αποκτά πρόσβαση σε έναν ηλεκτρονικό υπολογιστή.
Μια τέτοια περίπτωση μόλυνσης αναφέρθηκε στο ειδησεογραφικό κοινωνικό δίκτυο Reddit. «Υπολογιστής στελέχους μεγάλης εταιρείας μολύνθηκε από ιό, χωρίς να είναι δυνατό να προσδιοριστεί η πηγή», γράφει ο χρήστης. Αφότου καλύφθηκαν όλοι οι παραδοσιακοί τρόποι μόλυνσης, το τμήμα υπηρεσιών Πληροφορικής άρχισε να αναζητά άλλες πιθανές πηγές.
Μεταξύ άλλων, οι τεχνικοί ρώτησαν τον χρήστη του υπολογιστή εάν είχε προβεί σε αλλαγές στη ζωή του πρόσφατα. «Ναι», απάντησε έκπληκτος εκείνος. «Πριν από δύο εβδομάδες έκοψα το κάπνισμα και κάνω μόνο ηλεκτρονικό τσιγάρο».
Οπως αποδείχτηκε στη συνέχεια, το κακόβουλο λογισμικό του – made in China – ηλεκτρονικού τσιγάρου βρισκόταν στον φορτιστή, με αποτέλεσμα να μολύνει το σύστημα όταν συνδεόταν στον υπολογιστή μέσω USB.
Αν και πρόκειται για ένα μεμονωμένο περιστατικό, το οποίο μάλιστα δεν είναι εύκολο να επιβεβαιωθεί (οι εταιρείες σπανίως αποκαλύπτουν τα κενά ασφαλείας), ειδικοί συμφωνούν ότι ακούγεται απολύτως λογικό. Είναι καινούριο το μέσο διάδοσης του ιού, εξηγούν στην Guardian, η όμως διαδικασία παραμένει πάντα η ίδια.
